NIS America Badman Press Event 2009 Print E-mail
Nippon Ichi Software America (NISA) hosted a press event on May 7 in San Francisco. There was food, booze and of course games. Kiosks and test stations were set up for playing, such as Holy Invasion of Privacy Badman!: What did I do to Deserve this? for the PSP and Phantom Brave for the Wii. A significant number of new games were announced from NIS America, but not before some formal introductions and guests speeches.

It began with an apology, from the President of the of NIS America about the problems of Ar tonelico 2 for the Playstation 2, and for the absence of guest members from Sony due to the swine flu scare. Yoshitsuna Kobayashi, Chief Programmer of the original Disgaea, announced that he was leaving NIS Japan to start his own company called Yoshitsuna Inc. He stated that his new company will not put a lot of effort when it comes to graphics, but will focus largely on game play. He will keep the tradition of game making that he upheld when working with NIS, so expect to see more of the familiar 2D graphics from his own studio. He hopes to release his first game from his new company before the end of this year.

There were five games announced for different platforms. Holy Invasion of Privacy Badman!: What did I do to Deserve this? Is a game for the PSP. The game has fairly simple 8-bit style graphics and a simple premise. You help the evil overlord by trying to eliminate all the wannabe heroes that try to catch him. You play as the Lord of Destruction represented by a pick, and dig up a dungeon for heroes to navigate through. As you dig up the path, you release monsters that impede the heroes from catching the over eccentric overlord. Holy Invasion of Privacy Badman! is set to be release in July 2009.

Holy Invasion of Privacy Batman...Badman, there is a fire breathing dragon in my lair!

Other games that were announced at the event were, the Playstation Portable port of Disgaea 2: Dark Hero Days with added gameplay and elements, an update on the long awaited DS title A Witches Tale, Mana Khemia 2: Fall of Alchemy coming for the Playstation 2, a brand new title Last Rebellion for the Playstation 3, and surprisingly Sakura Wars: So long, My Love (PS2,Wii).

Early screenshot of Last Rebellion, Looks promising.

Disgaea 2: Dark Hero Days for the PSP isn't just a remake. It is an enhancing of the original game with new story chapters, new characters, such as Axel who you will get to play after beating the original story mode. There is also all new battle elements brought over from Disgaea 3. Although people might find that this release is just another rehashing of the original Disgaea 2, they will soon find out that the game has much more replay value then it did when it first came out.

New main Character Axel seems to be excited for his appearance in the game.

Sakura Wars: So Long, My Love is coming to the US for the first time. Sakura Wars is a strategy RPG with anime influenced graphics. The game involves mechs, or giant robots and teenage drama. There 8 different chapters, each 4-5 hours long and you can play up to 7 different main characters. Anyone who likes strategy RPG will enjoy this game once it hit the Playstation 2 and Nintendo Wii this Fall.

Most of the games shown at this year event look promising especially during an economic slump for fans. Hopefully all the games announced at the event will be released on time, I'm looking at you A Witch's Tale, which was originally announced last year. Let's hope that we don't have to wait too long for these games to come out.
