Piko Goes Mainstream from Nico Nico

Former Nico Nico Douga star Piko is branching out into mainstream media with his major debut single, “Story.” He announced during a live broadcast on Nico Nico Douga today that the new single will be released on October 13. He’s performed at notable venues such as at the Shibuya-AX hall in Tokyo and Yokohama Blitz in Yokohama. In addition, some of his songs have caught the eye and collaboration of noteworthy people such as Ryo of Supercell. Are we looking at the next breakout Nico Nico Douga star? Although he certainly lacks the mystery appeal of Supercell's anonymous members, so we'll have to wait and see how his career will turn out. Sample of his work after the jump.

AKB48 Members to do Manga

It’s a shame this wasn’t announced before Anime Expo 2010, but AKB48 members Mayu Watanabe, Yuki Kashiwagi, Rie Kitahara, and Rino Sashihara will take turns drawing manga for Weekly Young Jump. Each one will reflect the often wonky personality traits of the members; the titles roughly translate to Mayuyu: Mangaka Debut Project, Yukirin’s THE Idol Quest, Kitarie’s Path of a Fantasy Literature Girl, and Sasshi Beautiful Girl Transformation Project. Kitahara and Sashihara were present at Anime Expo 2010, which would have made this a great topic of discussion. The first issue will go on sale August 19. Pictures of said members included for reference in case readers need it, considering there are more than 48 of these girls.
