Evolution (EVO) is, without a doubt, the premiere fighting game event in America. Once a year in early August, some of the best fighting game players gather in Las Vegas to play against each other in a tournament to prove who's the best. Evolution has a long history of bringing together players all the way from both coasts of America, as well as bringing international players from Japan, the United Kingdom, and several other countries. For the last three years, EVO has used several different hotels in Vegas as latter-day arenas, such as the Red Rock or Green Valley Ranch hotel, but this year it finally moves onto the strip by taking place in the Tropicana.

This year, the event featured six games: Street Fighter 3: 3rd Strike (3s), Marvel vs Capcom 2 (MvC2), Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection (T5DR), Super Smash Brothers Brawl (or just Brawl), Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo (ST), and Capcom vs SNK 2 (CvS2). In addition to the featured games, attendees ran side tournaments for games ranging from the widely known Guilty Gear XX Accent Core (GGAC) to the newly released Soul Calibur IV (SC4). If there was a fighting game you liked, the competition for it was here.

In addition to the tournaments, Evolution also brought four next-gen games to the event for players to try out: Street Fighter IV (SF4), Super Street Fighter Turbo HD Remix (STHD), Tatsunoko vs Capcom (TvC), and BlazBlue. Many players got their first chance to try these games out during this three day weekend, and they were not disappointed. Not only did they get to enjoy the games, but Capcom and AkSys representatives were actively taking feedback to help improve the games before release.

A legendary moment back in EVO 2006.
