WHAT'S the deal with imaginary girls?

So recently, I’ve been playing this game that I know a lot of you have heard of…LovePlus+. I write that with some shame, by the way. And I can’t help but ask myself, “What’s the deal with this game?!”

Please, someone enlighten me as to why these games are so addictive and can even entice gamers to elope with their DS systems. So I’m trying it out to see what all the buzz is about. Essentially, I have to go through school life, improving my intelligence, athletics, or charisma in the game. Most activities will improve one rating and then lower the other. Cause as we all know, jocks can’t be smart and nerds can’t be athletic. But after playing through 70-some-odd days and getting the girl to confess to me, I lost even more interest in the game.

It became even more mundane to upkeep a girlfriend who’d have the most boring conversations ever. I don’t know about you guys, but a conversation that consists of me asking what time it is or her simply liking whatever color I say isn’t mentally stimulating at all. But then again, “mentally stimulating” was never a requirement for girlfriends, was it? The bigger, and most important factor, is physical.

But LovePlus+ and other love simulators lack that, too! You’re never going to have physical contact with Manaka/Rinko/Nene (the trio of selectable girlfriends)! Nobody ever will! Some visual novel gamers have rebutted this point, telling me that “at least she’s pure.” Come on. Really? Do you really want to count how many people in Japan are with Manaka/Rinko/Nene right now? Be my guest.

But who knows? Maybe these games just aren’t for me. Can someone enlighten me on the purpose of playing a game to court a virtual, boring, untouchable female?
