After being able to play a hands-on demo of Marvel's Avengers at PAX 2019 and seeing more new info released during the various War Table streams, I was excited to play more. After a weekend with the PlayStation 4 closed beta, I am having very high hopes.

The Beta kicks off with the A day mission that gives the player a tutorial of the 5 main Avengers. I can say it was definitely tuned up from when I last played this section of the game. The taskmaster fight is definitely my favorite part of this mission.

The two-story missions included in the beta gave a great look at the real outlay of the game and I enjoyed getting to see some of the other characters interact with one another. I absolutely love having Kamala Kahn as the main protagonist of the campaign. Her high energy personality reminds me of Tom Holland's Spider-Man when he joined the Avengers in the MCU.

The War Table missions are where the real grind of the game will be. There were a few short but sweet missions where you would just take out waves of enemies. One mission hero exclusive mission I played had me locked to playing as Hulk. One of the last missions had me face on a giant robot enemy boss with various mechanics that really put my skills to the test. With all the different missions I was seeing a bit of repetitiveness and some of the missions didn't last very long either. Hopefully, this will change for the full release of the game.

Where Marvel's Avengers really shines is in its multiple skill trees where you can truly define your Avenger and make it your own. I spent most of my beta session playing around with Black Widow. My favorite skill tree for her was the ranged tree where you could customize various gun abilities. Putting enough points into the tree gave Black Widow the ability to wield a giant magnum with very high damage output making quick work of my foes. I can not wait to see what a max level Avenger can do.

Marvel's Avengers shows a lot of promise. The story is intriguing and the characters are very likable. The skill tree and battle system is bound to keep me busy for hours and while I do have some concerns about campaign missions being too repetitive, I feel things will only get better as the game progresses.

With many future updates to come and new shiny consoles on the horizon, I could definitely find myself investing thousands of hours into this game and I am super excited to play more.
