The port features animation sequences along with Japanese voice-overs for important events, main story cutscenes and during battles. Although the game does not a pay-to-play transaction model, the difficulty of the game has been raised to encourage players to buy optional items such as status boosts and items to revive characters after death.
Tales of Phantasia follows the story of two young heroes, Cress and Chester, who must prevent the resurrection of the evil sorcerer king, Dhaos. As with the original, the game uses a linear motion battle system where players control one person while the rest of the team is controlled by the computer. Other Tales games that will be released this year includes Tales of Symphonia Chronicles in February and Tales of Xillia 2 later this year.
