Hatsune Miku has had quite a history on consoles with its Project Diva series of games starting on the PlayStation Portable, later releasing on PlayStation 3, and PlayStation 4, and eventually making its way to Nintendo Switch. Hatsune Miku now has a home on iOS with Hatsune Miku: Colorful Stage!

Hatsune Miku: Colorful Stage! is a Japanese rhythm game and serves as a spin-off title to the Project Diva series. It features various virtual singers from the Hatsune Miku universe as well as 20 original characters split up into different groups with a unique theme. Visually, the game is very pleasing to the eyes. The art is vibrant and the characters are very well-drawn and extremely detailed. The UI and menus are well designed and I found it very easy to navigate my way around.

The character customization menu added an extra layer of depth and creativity to the game allowing you to dress up your character with various outfits which did turn out to be purely cosmetic and did not affect the gameplay.

At its core, the gameplay is pretty simplistic with a small number of notes scrolling down the screen requiring you to tap the screen at the right moment as they go by. Some notes will need you to press and hold the screen until the note finishes and others will require you to flick upwards on the screen. The difficulty never seemed overly hard and there was a nice variety of difficulty levels ranging from easy all the way to master. Additionally, you can adjust the speed at which the notes scroll adding a nice touch to the user experience.

After a short but, sweet time with Hatsune Miku: Colorful Stage! the game has officially pulled me in. I absolutely love the characters and fast-paced rhythm gameplay on the go. It’s very refreshing to see console games work well in a mobile space. I can not wait to jump back in, play more of the main story, and level up all the characters.
