Arc System Works recently confirmed that Valkenhayn R. Hellsing will be the next downloadable character for BlazBlue: Continuum Shift and that BlazBlue will make an appearance at the upcoming Amusement Machine Show. While no pricing has been revealed yet, the character will likely come out to $7.99 on PSN and 560 MS points on Xbox LIVE – the same price as the downloadable Makoto Nanaya character.  Pictures and more after the jump.

UPDATE: Added Character Description

Regarding fighting game BlazBlue’s appearance at Amusement Machine Show, Designer Toshimichi Mori said, “Please think carefully about what this means for the game,” inviting fans to conjure up what's next for the series. The Amusement Machine Show is set to take place from September 9 to September 11. Since the Amusement Machine Show is geared toward arcade games, it will likely affect the arcade version of BlazBlue.

Valkenhayn is Rachel Alucard's butler and hasn't been shown in action yet. If the second screenshot below is his fighting stance, then it will be wildly different from his character portrait in the game's story mode, which was also the case for Makoto. Aside from this, players who have gone through Continuum Shift's story mode will know that Valkenhayn is known for making amazing scones.

It’s a given that they will be showing off something new, but it remains to be seen whether that will mean patching the arcade version to include downloadable characters like Makoto and Valkenhayn or a new version of the game altogether. It would really kill any steam Continuum Shift has on consoles if Arc System Works was to already move on to a new version; this was evident in the past when many players quickly ditched BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger for Continuum Shift once the arcade version was available. I love BlazBlue as much as the next guy, but I’m tired of dropping money on the game and seeing it obsolete in a matter of months. Let’s hope it’s the former and that arcade goers can get a go at Makoto and Valkenhayn.
