Amano is a name that I think everyone knows from his work on Final Fantasy, Vampire Hunter D, and many others. He's compiled quite the collection over the past five decades. Now, in a bit of digital wizardry, we get a virtual museum dedicated to his works. Artists painstakingly convert his 2D art into 3D. This takes a bit more work than you might expect as going from 2D to 3D requires having to model for depth and create the sides of those previously unseen things. Art will be converted in reliefs, 3D murals, sculptures, and more. Having work be in 3D allows for animation and motion to give that extra bit of life to Amano's work.

This is the final few weeks for the Kickstarter for the Yoshitaka Amano VR Museum. The project is in cooperation with Amano himself and offers plenty of goodies for backers, and for those willing to shell out for the higher tiers, autographs from the man himself. The very highest tier, which sets you back a cool $10,000, lets you meet him over in Japan.

3D artists from around the world have been tasked to interpret and recreate Amano's work in 3D.  Amano himself approves every part of the VR museum from the interior, lighting, as well as texture and modeling of the art itself.

Here's an example of one of the pieces you'll find in the museum:

The basic access to the VR museum is $40. I assume this will be an app or game that will be available down the line so you may be able to get it for cheaper at another point in time. There are many add-ons including post cards, clothing, art books, a puzzle, and many others. Please check the Kickstarter page for details.

This is not an endorsement of the project. As with all Kickstarters, do your own research and judge for yourself whether you would like to put money into it. Kickstarters are not a guarantee and you may not receive anything for your money.
