LiSA Interview @ Anime Expo 2012

The-O Network’s Jason Young and Theodore Mak had a chance to interview Japanese pop singer LiSA at Anime Expo 2012. LiSA, who is widely known for her work as the singing voice for Angel Beats!’s Yui and Fate/Zero’s opening “Oath/Sign” has released two Oricon-charting albums Letters to U and Lover"S"Mile to date, making her an up-and-coming J-pop sensation. We explore her love for Disney and her impressions of being in America for the first time in her career. Make sure to also check out her video shout out to The-O Network readers at the end!

The Tales of series may not be as famous as the Final Fantasy franchise in terms of J-RPG games, regardless, it has managed to spawn nearly as many games as its Square Enix counterpart with fourteen main titles, and sixteen offshoots. It should come as no surprise that sooner or later there would be animation adaptations for the more popular Tales of titles. Tales of Vesperia: The First Strike was first shown in theatres in Japan on October 3, 2009 as the first theatrical film ever made of the Tales of series. Three years later, FUNimation picked up the film for English release.

Shigeto Koyama Interview @ FanimeCon 2012

Written by

This year's FanimeCon had an exciting line of guests and panels including Japanese designer Shigeto Koyama. He has worked on popular series such as Heroman, Panty & Stocking, Gurren Lagann, Evangelion, and Eureka Seven. Check out what he had to say as we discussed a little about his work on the popular mecha anime Star Driver along with some of his current works that he was unable to talk to us about during our previous interview!

tono convention guide panels and autographs

If you’re not there for the dealer’s hall or cosplayers, you’re probably at a convention for the panels or autograph sessions. These events tend to be the pillars around which a convention day is planned since this is where you’ll meet cool guests, hear breaking news, watch experts discuss the goings on of the industry, or possibly even get a quick lesson in art, writing, or something else creative. As anyone who’s been to even a single convention can tell you, there are often more events than you can go to in a single day, and random little things tend to prevent you from keeping to a strict schedule. So, what’s the best way to create a decent schedule that lets you see everything you want to but includes a decent amount of breathing room? Find out below!

feature cosplayers

You’ve seen them, you’ve gawked at them, and you might have been one yourself. They are an ever-present element at conventions, and their tradition spans back decades. What is this omnipresent force of rubber-necking fury? Why, cosplayers of course. Even if the convention you’re attending takes place in a dull white room with nothing interesting to look at, you’re still probably going to want to take a picture of at least one cosplayer. Sometimes it’s as simple as asking them for a picture, but if you want to be courteous while you snap away, follow these general rules.

AX 2012 - Muv-Luv: Total Eclipse Premiere

Written by

total eclipse

One of the highlights of Anime Expo this year was the US premiere of Muv-Luv Alternative: Total Eclipse. Since the first episode already aired in Japan, Anime Expo attendees also got to see the second episode. The screening was conducted by Kouki Yoshimune who is the creator of the series, and vocalists Minami Kuribayashi and Ayami.

Muv-Luv is a popular series in Japan that follows mankind's war against an alien invasion. Originally a visual novel game on the PC, there are literally hordes of Muv-Luv merchandise already in existence ranging from figurines to hug pillows. The series' dark theme, kickass giant robots, military premise, and a cast of voluptuous female pilots in skin tight suits gives it a winning combination and it's been highly unusual that it has taken this long for an anime adaptation to appear.

feature convention-showroom

The showroom floor is the most chaotic place in any convention. Even though the panels are spread out, most people are concentrated in or immediately around the dealers hall and artists alley since they account for the bulk of the conventions’ floor space. Not only will you have just enough room to shuffle around, you’ll have to maneuver your bag so it doesn’t catch on or hit anybody while scoping out vendor booths and artist tables in quick, jerky glances so you don’t end up running into someone. Navigating the space, deals, and people of the showroom floor can be a hectic experience, but a little preparation and common courtesy will go a long way.
